Two trust funds of Tk 20 lakh established at Dhaka University

‘Dr. Mazid Scholarship Trust Fund’ and ‘Rosie Anwara Mazid Trust Award’ have been established at Dhaka University to provide scholarships and research support to students. A cheque of Tk 20 lakh was handed over to Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam today, Monday, July 20, 2026, to establish this trust fund.

The cheque handover ceremony was presided over by Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at the Vice Chancellor’s meeting room. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Upma Kabir, Chairman of the Department of Physics Professor Dr. Md. Aminul Islam Talukder, Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Shafiul Alam, Professor of the Department of Physics Professor Dr. Istiak M. Syed, Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr. Sakhawat Hossain, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, Donor Member Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid and Afroza Chowdhury were present.

10 lakh taka was provided for the establishment of ‘Dr. Mazid Scholarship Trust Fund’. From the income of this trust fund, two students who have achieved the highest CGPA in the final examination of B.S. (Hons) Physics Department of Dhaka University will be given a one-time scholarship of 40 thousand taka each while studying in the M.S. class.

On the other hand, 10 lakh taka was provided for the establishment of ‘Rosie Anwara Mazid Trust Award’. From the income of this fund, two meritorious and indigent students studying in B.Sc. (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department of Dhaka University will be given a research scholarship at the rate of 3 thousand taka per month for one year. Accordingly, each student will receive a total financial assistance of 36 thousand taka.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam expressed his sincere gratitude to the donor members for taking such initiatives for the welfare of the students. He said that the alumni of Dhaka University are establishing themselves in the country and abroad and are coming forward for the development of the students of their respective departments and the university, which is very encouraging. He expressed the hope that this initiative will be expanded in the future and will inspire other alumni to get involved in the development activities of the university.

The Vice Chancellor said that the contribution of alumni is very important in the progress of the world's leading universities. It is necessary to further strengthen the cooperation of alumni in the research, innovation and improvement of the quality of education of Dhaka University. Especially, their cooperation in maintaining research infrastructure, preserving modern equipment and increasing research funds can play an important role in moving the university forward.
