Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and several Congress leaders were detained by Delhi Police during a protest outside the Prime Minister's residence on Monday.
The protest was dispersed after talks between the opposition and authorities reportedly failed. During the police action, officers cleared demonstrators from the protest site and detained several opposition leaders.
Videos from the scene showed Rahul Gandhi with a bleeding nose, with Congress alleging that he was dragged by police during the operation.
The Congress also claimed that several of its women Members of Parliament were manhandled during the police action. Authorities have not immediately responded to the allegations.
The incident has sparked fresh political tensions, with the opposition accusing the government of using excessive force against peaceful protesters.
