A member of an alleged broker network was detained by personnel of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force during a patrol at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday.

According to officials, the suspect, identified as Md. Zahirul Islam, 39, was caught while allegedly attempting to persuade patients and their relatives to undergo pathology tests at a private diagnostic center outside the hospital by offering quicker services.

The operation was conducted by members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar (DMA) West Zone after patrol commander Mohammad Hasan noticed the suspicious activity. The suspect was later handed over to the hospital authorities.

During questioning, the detainee reportedly admitted to acting as a broker in the hospital area and gave a written undertaking that he would not engage in such activities again.

Bangladesh Ansar said its personnel continue regular patrols and surveillance at hospitals to protect patients from fraud, harassment, and financial exploitation by broker networks, helping ensure a safer and more transparent healthcare environment.
