A mobile court has fined a business establishment Tk 10,000 for selling imported chocolates and candies without approval and clearance from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in Rajshahi city.
The drive was conducted on Wednesday, July 22, by the Rajshahi Divisional Office of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). During the operation, Rahat Enterprise, located in the Kali Mandir lane of Saheb Bazar, was penalized for marketing foreign chocolates and candies without BSTI certification, necessary clearance, and valid import documents.
According to officials, the products were allegedly brought into the country through illegal channels and sold without complying with the required standards and regulations.
As part of the same operation, special monitoring activities were carried out at Nayan Petroleum Agency and Afrin Filling Station in the Talaimari area of the city. The monitoring focused on preventing illegal stockpiling of petrol, octane, and diesel, countering rumours, and ensuring accurate weights and measurements.
The mobile court was led by Mosa. Farhana Hossain, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Rajshahi District Administration. Engineer Junaid Ahmed, an official of the Certification Marks Wing of BSTI’s Rajshahi Divisional Office, served as the prosecutor during the drive. Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police assisted in the operation.
BSTI officials said such drives would continue regularly to prevent adulteration and substandard products and to ensure the supply of safe and quality goods to consumers.
