Two members of a broker syndicate were arrested by Ansar personnel at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Kafrul for allegedly harassing service seekers and collecting money through illegal brokerage activities. A mobile court later sentenced both individuals to one month of imprisonment.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday as part of efforts to ensure transparency in public services and protect citizens from fraud and harassment.
According to officials, the suspects were targeting people visiting the Kafrul BRTA office for driving licences, vehicle fitness certificates, and other services. They allegedly lured service seekers with promises of faster processing and collected money in exchange for illegal assistance.
Ansar guards on duty became suspicious of the activities of two individuals, identified as Rana, 36, and Kabir Hossain, 47, and placed them under surveillance. The suspects were subsequently caught red-handed with evidence of financial transactions linked to brokerage activities.
Following the arrests, the BRTA Executive Magistrate stationed at the office conducted a mobile court. Based on evidence and the accused persons’ admission of the offence, the magistrate sentenced each of them to one month of simple imprisonment.
After the verdict, the convicted individuals were handed over to Kafrul Police Station for completion of legal formalities and transfer to jail.
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party officials said their members remain committed to maintaining security and law and order at key public and private installations across the country. They added that strict monitoring and professional enforcement activities will continue at BRTA offices and other public service institutions to ensure citizens receive services without falling victim to fraud, middlemen, or harassment.
