Respectful, safe service to citizens ensured: CPC

BPWN has organized a nationwide discussion meeting to strengthen gender-sensitive policing and support services. On June 7, as part of the “Implementation of BPWN Strategic Plan 2024-2027” at the Metropolitan Shooting Club of Dampara Police Line, Chittagong, a series of discussion meetings were launched nationwide. 70 police officers and senior leaders from Chittagong Range and Metropolitan gathered in this day-long workshop.

Chittagong Police Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Police Commissioner Chittagong Metropolitan Police inaugurated the workshop and was present as the chief guest. “Workshops and trainings renew our commitment, but real empowerment comes through ensuring a safe, respectful and supportive environment where all, regardless of gender, can serve the nation with equality and professionalism,” he said.

BPWN President Nasima Akhter, Additional DIG (Logistics), Police Headquarters, Dhaka, said, “Our goal is to further strengthen women’s participation, leadership and inclusive security. Currently, the organization is taking special initiatives to protect the mental health of all police members, regardless of gender.

Guest of Honor Sanjay Sarkar, Superintendent of Police (Promoted to the rank of Additional DIG), Chittagong Range Office, Chittagong, spoke at the workshop and reiterated the ongoing commitment of Bangladesh Police towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.

UN Women and BPWN have been working together to build institutional capacity and develop professional skills of women police officers, including strengthening gender-sensitive policing and victim-centered gender-based violence (GBV) services for women and girls in Bangladesh.

It is worth noting that as of January 2026, 17,988 women are serving in various positions in the Bangladesh Police, including in district command positions and in UN peacekeeping missions worldwide.

UN Women Representative Sadia Tasneem said, “Today’s workshop will further strengthen the goals that BPWN is working towards – increasing the participation, capacity and leadership of women police, and strengthening the position of BPWN in the Bangladesh Police.
