Preparations for Hajj and Eid-ul-Azha are intensifying across the Middle East and North Africa as efforts to sight the Dhul-Hijjah moon continue. The International Astronomy Center announced that the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 Hijri was photographed in daylight from Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Sunday morning.
According to the center, the moon was around nine hours old at the time of observation. Based on the sighting, Eid-ul-Azha is expected to be celebrated in the UAE on May 27.
Turkey and Tunisia have already confirmed that Eid-ul-Azha will also be observed on May 27 in their countries.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has urged Muslims to look for the Dhul-Hijjah crescent moon and report any sightings to the nearest court, either seen with the naked eye or through binoculars.
