Rajshahi City Administrator shares development plans at meeting with Varendra Press Club

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has said that he is sincerely working to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the city residents. He expressed his commitment to transforming Rajshahi into a greener, cleaner, healthier and more peaceful city with the cooperation of all stakeholders.

He made these remarks during an exchange of views meeting with the leaders of Rajshahi varendra Press Club held on Tuesday (May 12) at the Sarit Dutta Gupta conference room of Nagar Bhaban.

During the meeting, leaders of the Varendra Press Club presented several proposals regarding urban development, improvement of civic services, eviction of illegal footpath occupiers, industrialization and employment generation. The RCC administrator listened attentively to the proposals and assured that necessary steps would be taken gradually.

Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, “I am trying my best to ensure services for the city dwellers. Cooperation from all sections of society is essential for the development of Rajshahi.”

He said that since assuming office, special emphasis has been placed on the maintenance of trees and ensuring regular watering across the city. He also announced a plan to plant more than 300,000 trees during the upcoming monsoon season.

The RCC administrator further said that environmentally friendly bags and bleaching powder would be distributed among city residents ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

He added that several initiatives are being implemented to address waterlogging, including drain cleaning, fogger spray activities to control mosquitoes, repair of damaged roads and beautification projects across the city.

Highlighting RCC’s initiatives to prevent measles and rubella, he said, “Among all city corporations, Rajshahi was the first to distribute awareness leaflets door-to-door. We have achieved a 100 percent target in the measles-rubella vaccination campaign.”

The meeting was attended by Rajshahi Varendra Press Club President Md. Rezaul Karim, General Secretary Md. Shamsul Islam, Founding President Abu Kawsar Makhan, Vice-President Alauddin Mondol, Organizing Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Jibon, former Organizing Secretary Md Shahin Sagor, along with executive committee members and general members of the club.
