Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar-VDP) detained a suspected thief while he was allegedly attempting to break into a residential house at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Monday.
The detainee was identified as Md Ripon Mia, 22. Two of his alleged accomplices managed to flee the scene.
According to Ansar officials, the incident occurred at around 2amwhen the suspects attempted to enter a house in the airport residential area through a window of House No. U-80. Patrol Ansar members noticed the incident and immediately gave chase, eventually apprehending Ripon Mia.
The operation was led by APC Md Nasir Uddin, with Ansar members Md Khairul and Md Jahangir Hossain assisting.
The residents later informed the Ansar members that valuables had been kept inside the house as a wedding ceremony was scheduled to be held there the following day.
During preliminary questioning, Ripon allegedly admitted that he and his associates had attempted to enter the house to steal valuables. Police said he had previously faced cases related to drugs and smuggling.
The detainee was later handed over to Airport Police Station for legal action.
Ansar-VDP members continue to perform round-the-clock security duties at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and other key installations across the country. Their vigilance and prompt response, officials said, help prevent criminal activities and strengthen public security.
