Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC), in collaboration with Zia Parishad, has launched a tree plantation programme as part of a nationwide initiative to plant and nurture 250 million trees over the next five years to promote environmental protection and address climate change.
As part of the campaign, a tree plantation programme was held at the rooftop of BSFIC headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday. BSFIC Chairman (Grade-2) Md. Shamsuzzaman (Suruj) led the programme, which was attended by senior BSFIC officials and leaders of Zia Parishad.
According to BSFIC, the plantation drive has already begun in 16 northern districts under its sugar mill areas and will gradually be expanded to all mill zones across the country.
Following the plantation programme, a discussion meeting and prayer session were held at the BSFIC conference room. Speakers highlighted the importance of protecting the environment, tackling climate change and increasing green coverage. They also called on people across the country to actively participate in the nationwide tree plantation initiative.
