Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) have cleared a key road in Tahirpur upazila through voluntary labour, easing long-standing transportation difficulties for residents in the haor region.

The cleanup drive was carried out on Sunday under the supervision of the Sunamganj District Commandant and the Tahirpur Upazila Ansar and VDP office. Led by Union Team Leader Shah Ali and Ansar Commander Hazrat Ali, members removed water hyacinths, mud and waste from the Firozpur–Mahatabpur–Mallikpur road, the only road link serving the area.

Residents said the road had become almost impassable due to accumulated debris, causing severe hardship for students, farmers, women and other commuters, particularly during the monsoon season.

Ansar officials said the initiative was aimed at improving public convenience and ensuring safe movement for local people. They added that similar community service activities would continue in the future.

Local residents praised the volunteers for taking the initiative without waiting for government funding, saying the effort has significantly improved daily commuting and reflected the force's commitment to public service.
