A training workshop titled “Training on Reinforcing Technical Capacity of Water Level Data Collection, Processing and Analysis for Climate Hazard Management in the Bangladeshi Delta” was held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the seminar room of the Department of Oceanography, Dhaka University, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Dhaka and the International Center for Ocean Governance (ICOG). Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam inaugurated the training workshop as the chief guest.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by the founding chairman of the Department of Oceanography, Professor Dr. Md. Kausar Ahmed, and French oceanographer Dr. Tonya Astrid Capuano spoke as the special guest. ICOG researcher Dr. Mohammad Asfaq presented the keynote paper. ICOG Director Dr. K. M. Azam Chowdhury delivered the welcome address. Sadia Nasreen, a student of the Department of Oceanography, conducted the entire program.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam said, Bangladesh's responsibility for global climate change is very small. However, Bangladesh has to deal with its harmful effects in a large way. The coastal areas of the country are often exposed to various types of climate-related risks including floods, cyclones, and tidal waves. In this situation, we need to take effective plans based on scientific data. In this regard, emphasizing capacity building at the national level, he said, the knowledge gained from the training must be properly applied in the workplace.
60 professionals from various government and private institutions and research organizations participated in the workshop.
