National Fisheries Day celebrations in Bandarban

National Fisheries Party 2026 was celebrated in Bandarban with the theme of 'A country self-reliant in silver fisheries, Bangladesh first'.

On Sunday (August 16), the National Fisheries Day was celebrated through various programs organized by the Bandarban Hill District Council and the District Fisheries Department.
On this occasion, a colorful rally and discussion meeting was organized for the release of fish hatchery.
 In the event, different aspects of conservation of fishery resources, increase in production and expansion of fish farming at the local level were highlighted.
Member of Parliament for Bandarban Constituency No. 300 Satching Pru Jerry was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

Deputy Director of Fisheries Department Chittagong Division Biswajit Bairagi, Executive Officer of Bandarban Hill District Parishad Abul Mansoor, Additional Superintendent of Police Bandarban Sadar Circle Manna Dey, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Bandarban Hill District Abu Naeem Mohammad Saifuddin were present as special guests. Bandarban District BNP Joint Convenor Sasaipru.

Khamlai Mro, Member of Bandarban Hill District Council and Convener of Directorate of Fisheries, Bandarban, presided over the event. 
Besides, Bandarban District Fisheries President Abul Hashem, Bandarban District Fisheries General Secretary Kamal Hossain Patwari, Municipal Fisheries President Jamal Uddin Helali, General Secretary Md. Yunus also addressed the meeting.

Saching Pru said, there is a great potential for fish production in the reservoirs and mountain ranges of Bandarban. If fish farming and fishery resources are conserved in a planned way, it is possible to play a positive role in the economy of the district besides increasing the employment and income of the local people.
He also said that according to the promise of BNP's election manifesto, initiatives have been taken to abolish the lease system of water bodies, coastal canals and haors and open them to local fishermen and poor people on the principle of 'Jal Jaar, Jala Tar'. Also, integrated plans are being taken to establish global brands of shrimp and increase exports.

The speakers also said,If the production of fish at the local level increases, it will play a big role in meeting the nutritional needs of the people in the area as well as eliminating unemployment. Every year, this initiative is taken to make the common people aware through the fisheries department. Those concerned have expressed the hope that this kind of development will continue in the future as well. On the occasion, 5 fishermen of the district were presented with mementos.
