Five active members of a broker syndicate were arrested during an anti-tout operation at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Mirpur, Dhaka, following the vigilance of members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force. A mobile court later sentenced them to different terms of simple imprisonment.
The operation was conducted at around 2:00 pm at the Mirpur BRTA office under Kafrul Police Station in the Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar (DMA) West Zone. On-duty Ansar personnel observed several individuals allegedly collecting money from service seekers after promising to expedite various vehicle-related services through illegal means.
After verifying the allegations, an anti-tout drive was carried out inside the BRTA office in the presence of BRTA Executive Magistrate Mohammad Sajid Anwar. The operation was led by Platoon Commander (PC) Md. Khorshed Alam, resulting in the arrest of five alleged members of the broker syndicate while they were reportedly engaged in the illegal activities.
Following the operation, a mobile court sentenced Hira, 20, to 20 days of simple imprisonment. The remaining four individuals—Md. Yasin, 31, Md. Abdur Rahim, 46, Md. Jamal, 38, and Md. Mamunur Rashid, 29—were each sentenced to one month of simple imprisonment.
On the instructions of the Executive Magistrate, the convicted individuals were later handed over to Kafrul Police Station for further legal procedures.
The operation was carried out with the participation of Platoon Commander Md. Khorshed Alam, Assistant Platoon Commander (APC) Md. Al Mizan, and Ansar members Md. Matiar, Md. Imran Hossain, Pabitra Chandra Singha, and Manik Mia.
The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force stated that its personnel remain vigilant at government service institutions across the country to prevent public harassment and curb the activities of illegal broker syndicates, ensuring that citizens can access public services without interference.
