A suspected broker was detained at the Faridpur Sadar Upazila Election Office following the prompt action of a member of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force (Ansar-VDP). The suspect was later handed over to Faridpur Sadar Kotwali Police Station for legal action.
The incident took place at around 2:00 pm on Tuesday on the premises of the Upazila Election Office.
According to official sources, Md. Ariful Islam, Ward Leader No. 22 of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force, who was on duty at the election office, noticed a man behaving suspiciously inside the office compound. Observing inconsistencies in the individual's movements and conduct, he kept the suspect under close surveillance. When the man attempted to leave the premises, Ariful Islam chased and apprehended him.
The detained individual was identified as Md. Farid Molla, 42, a resident of Tambulkhana village under Kaijuri Union in Faridpur Sadar Upazila.
Following the incident, the matter was immediately reported to the officials in charge of the election office. Acting on their instructions, the suspect was handed over to Faridpur Sadar Kotwali Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Officials associated with the election office said Ansar-VDP personnel remain on constant alert to prevent harassment of citizens seeking government services, curb the activities of illegal broker syndicates, and maintain an orderly environment within the office.
The swift response and professionalism demonstrated by the on-duty Ansar member were described as another example of the force's effective role in strengthening security at government institutions and ensuring transparency in public service delivery.
