The Bridges Division and the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) will observe July Uprising Day 2026 on August 5 with daylong programmes to commemorate those killed during the July 2024 mass uprising.
As part of the observance, special prayers were offered after Zuhr prayers on Tuesday at the Setu Bhaban Mosque and at mosques located in BBA offices, project sites and rehabilitation areas. Prayers were offered for the martyrs of the Liberation War, victims of political violence over the past 17 years, those killed during the July uprising, and for the speedy recovery of those injured in the movement.
The BBA announced that its museums at the Jamuna Bridge and Padma Bridge will remain open to visitors free of charge throughout August 5. Recreational facilities under the authority will also be open to children without entry fees.
Essay, recitation and drawing competitions, along with discussion sessions, will be organised at educational institutions in rehabilitation areas near BBA project sites to promote awareness of the July uprising among younger generations. Winners will receive prizes.
Electronic display boards at toll plazas on all bridges under the BBA will carry messages marking the day, while national flags, banners and commemorative placards have been installed at toll plazas and key locations.
Bridges Division Secretary and BBA Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf paid tribute to those killed in the July uprising and expressed sympathy for the injured. He said the division remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability and quality infrastructure development while upholding the aspirations reflected in the movement.
