Eight children with symptoms consistent with measles died across Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8am on Saturday (August 15), raising the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 902 this year.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), all eight latest deaths have been classified as suspected measles fatalities. The number of suspected measles deaths has now reached 803, while confirmed deaths remain at 99.
During the same 24-hour period, 728 new suspected measles cases were reported, taking the nationwide total to 141,776.
The country also recorded 70 new laboratory-confirmed measles infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 17,800.
Since March 15, a total of 123,494 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised nationwide. Of them, 119,089 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
