Government grants totaling nearly Tk 32 lakh have been distributed among six orphanages in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat, benefiting 264 orphan children.
The cheques were handed over to representatives of the orphanages by Lalmonirhat-2 lawmaker Rokon Uddin Babul at the upazila parishad auditorium on Sunday afternoon.
A total of Tk 31.68 lakh was allocated for the orphanages under the Social Welfare Ministry’s Capitation Grant programme for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The programme was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiful Islam. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahid Ishraq, Senior Fisheries Officer Abdul Ahad Laju, Social Services Officer Sukanta Sarker and freedom fighter Mohsin Ali Tulu, among others, attended the event.
