A prayer and discussion meeting was held in memory of the late Professor A.K.M. Nazrul Islam of the Department of Botany, Dhaka University, today, Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Central Gallery of the Department of Botany. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani was present as the chief guest at the memorial meeting.
The discussion meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Department of Botany, Professor Dr. Asfaq Ahmed, and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Karim, spoke as the special guest. Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, retired Professor Z.N. Tahmida Begum, retired Professor Moniruzzaman Khandaker and supernumerary professor Dr. Md. Abul Basar reminisced. Nurunnahar Shelly, wife of the late Professor A.K.M. Nazrul Islam, and son Ahmed Saeed Nazrul were present. Marufa Akhter Koli, a student of the department, conducted the memorial service.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani paid deep tribute to the memory of the late Professor A.K.M. Nazrul Islam and said, he was a very kind person and a dedicated teacher and researcher. He had deep knowledge and interest in various subjects including botany. It is very important to preserve the valuable information and data and rare research materials collected in his long working life. These materials will inspire students in their research.
It is worth noting that Professor A.K.M. Nazrul Islam passed away on December 23 last year in a hospital in Dhaka. He was 77 years old at the time of his death.
