Gopalganj marks National Fisheries Day with rally, awards

Like the rest of the country, a colorful rally, release of fish fry of indigenous species, discussion meeting and award distribution of crests as prizes among successful fish farmers were held in Gopalganj too on the occasion of National Fisheries Day-2026 (August 16 to 30).

A colorful rally was held at 11 am on Sunday (August 16) under the joint initiative of the Gopalganj District Administration and the District Fisheries Department under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate Md. Arif-Uz-Zaman with the theme "A self-reliant country through silver fisheries, Bangladesh first" and ended at the pond of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad. 

Later, the program was officially inaugurated by releasing fish fry of various species of native fish. After that, District Fisheries Officer Md. Kamrul Islam delivered the welcome speech at the discussion meeting held in the conference room of Sadar Upazila Parishad under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate Md. Arif-uz-Zaman.

The discussion meeting held under the chairmanship of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Debla Chakraborty was addressed as special guests by District Police Superintendent Md. Habibullah, District BNP Convener and District Parishad Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Sharif Rafiquzzaman, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Kaushik Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience of Gopalganj University of Science and Technology Prant Saha, Sadar Upazila BNP Convener and District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Md. Taufiqul Islam and Sadar Upazila BNP Member Secretary Fazlul Kabir Dara.

The speakers at the meeting said that pond preparation, fry selection, balanced diet and regular water testing are very important for a successful fish farming project. The speakers encouraged fish farming using modern methods and also said that it is possible to get more profit at less cost by fish farming. 

Therefore, everyone was urged to do more fish farming. At the end of the discussion meeting, the invited guests presented the fish farmers with a crest of appreciation as an award in recognition of their long career, expressing their gratitude and respect to them.

At that time, other officials of the Gopalganj district and upazila administration, former president of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila BNP Sikder Shahidul Islam Lelin, owners of various fish farms, farmers, media workers working in various electronic and print media in the district, including people from all classes and professions were present.
