A total of Tk 3 lakh has been fined to four establishments in Kashimpur, Gazipur, for selling unlicensed fortified soybean and mustard oil and under-weighting.
The drive was conducted at various places in Kashimpur area of Gazipur metropolis on Tuesday (August 18). The drive, initiated by BSTI, Gazipur, was led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Lutfunnesa Khanam.
BSTI Gazipur Assistant Director (CM) Md. Saidur Rahman said that M/s Makka Super Oil Mill of Paschim Panishail did not accept BSTI's CM (Certification Mark) license for selling and distributing fortified soybean oil and mustard oil. For this crime, the company was fined Tk 50,000 as per BSTI Act, 2018.
The same company was fined Tk 50,000 as per Weights and Measures Act, 2018, as evidence was found of under-weighting soybean oil in its unit in Uttar Panishail.
In addition, Lalmonirhat Variety Store in Morkhan Chattar area was fined Tk 1 lakh for selling and distributing fortified soybean oil without BSTI CM license, and Sikder Consumer Products in Ward No. 2 of Madhabpur was fined Tk 1 lakh for the same charge.
BSTI, Gazipur Deputy Director and Office Head SM Talat Mahmud, Assistant Director (CM) Md. Saidur Rahman, Field Officer (CM) Md. Riaz Hossain Mollah, Mohammad Parvez Mia and Engineer Fahad Ahmed, Engineer Mohiuddin Wareshi were present in the drive.
A team from Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and RAB-1 provided full support in the operation. BSTI authorities said that such operations will continue to protect the interests of consumers, ensure product quality and stop the unauthorized marketing of substandard or unapproved products.
