4 Boats Handed Over to Bandarban Admin for Flood Relief

4 boats have been handed over to the Bandarban Sadar Upazila Administration by World Vision Bangladesh and Village Development Organization (GROUSE) for the movement of people affected by flash floods in Bandarban and for emergency use.

The boats were officially handed over to the Bandarban Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer's office on Thursday (August 20).

Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Lutfar Rahman, World Vision Bangladesh Bandarban Area Senior Manager Ashish Kumar Halder, Grouse Chairperson Mong Thuy Ching Marma, Bandarban Grouse Program Manager Tulu Marma, Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer SM Mamun were present in the handover ceremony organized under the chairmanship of Bandarban Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Marufa Sultana Khan Hibamani. No. 3 Bandarban Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Angsahla Marma, Sualok Union Parishad Chairman Ukyanu Marma, Kuhalong Union Parishad Chairman Mongpu Marma, Rajbila Union Parishad Chairman Ka Ong Pru Marma, Jamchari Union Parishad Acting Chairman Simpru Marma and journalists of print and electronic media.

The boats are provided by World Vision Bangladesh and Grouse in collaboration with START Fund Bangladesh under the project 'Emergency Assistance Program for Families Affected by Flash Floods in Bandarban-2026'. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Marufa Sultana Khan Hibamani received the boats on behalf of Bandarban Sadar Upazila Administration.

Among the boats handed over, 2 will be allotted to Bandarban Sadar Union, 1 to Kuhlang Union and 1 to Bandarban Sadar Upazila Parishad. These boats will be used for the movement of flood affected people, emergency transportation and delivery of necessary assistance.

The people concerned said that the people of different areas of Bandarban lost their houses, communication system and livelihood due to sudden floods and suffered greatly. Although the flood waters have receded, the normal movement of many people in inaccessible and waterlogged areas is still being disrupted. In this situation, the boats will play an important role in the communication and emergency needs of the local flood-affected people.Each boat handed over is an 18 feet long FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) support boat. They are durable, rust resistant and easily repairable. Each boat has a capacity of about 10 to 12 people or about 700 kg. The weight of the boat is about 85 kg.

Earlier, under the same emergency relief program, cash and essential items were distributed among flood-affected families in Bandarban. Those concerned said that in addition to meeting the immediate needs during the disaster, the disaster-In the future, it is necessary to continue such support activities to bring back the normal life of the affected population.
