Seminar urges social resistance to corruption

A seminar titled 'Say No to Corruption' was held in Gopalganj with the aim of building a social movement against corruption across the country and ensuring transparency and accountability.

The seminar was organized by Green Force Bangladesh, Gopalganj District Committee at 10:30 am on Saturday (August 22) at the conference room of Gopalganj Government College.

The main article was presented by Md. Mozaharul Haque Bablu, General Secretary of Green Force Bangladesh, Gopalganj District Committee. He said that corruption is hindering the development of the country and violating the rights of the common people. Bribery, nepotism and abuse of power have spread to different levels of society. He called on everyone, regardless of party or opinion, to unite against corruption to overcome this situation.

The main article demanded ensuring transparency and accountability in administration, establishing good governance, disclosing government financial accounts to the public, and boycotting corrupt people socially and politically. 

In addition, it demanded making government services easy and corruption-free through maximum use of information technology, strict punishment for accepting and giving bribes, ensuring transparency in the teacher recruitment and student admission process, and taking strict action against question paper leaks and coaching trade.

There were also demands for proper implementation of e-tender in the health sector, strong surveillance to ensure the quality of hospital services, and taking action against fake doctors and clinics.

Gopalganj District Council Administrator and District BNP Convener Bir Muktijoddha Sharif Rafiquzzaman was present as the chief guest at the seminar.

Green Force Bangladesh Central Committee Chairman Mikael Rahman, Gopalganj Government College Principal Professor Shah Md. Iqbal Hossain, former vice-principal of the college Sardar Nurul Islam, former principal of Tungipara Government College Professor Masud Ahmed, Dean of ASVM Faculty of Gopalganj University of Science and Technology Dr. Mahbub Hasan and Acting Principal of Gopalganj Government Women's College Khandaker Sabina Yasmin.

The seminar was presided over by Golam Mostafa, former professor of Gopalganj Government College and president of Green Force Bangladesh, Gopalganj district branch.

The speakers said that the responsibility of building a corruption-free Bangladesh does not lie with any single organization. People from all walks of life in the state and society must take a stand against corruption. The speakers all emphasized on building social resistance against corruption as well as ensuring accountability and effective monitoring in government institutions.
