The annual art exhibition of the Department of Oriental Art at the University of Dhaka began on Wednesday at the Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Art.
The exhibition was inaugurated at the Osman Jamal Auditorium of the faculty on September 2.
Department Chairman Gopal Chandra Tribedi presided over the opening ceremony, while Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art Professor Dr. Md. Azharul Islam Sheikh attended as chief guest. DU Proctor Md. Israfil Prang, Provost of Jagannath Hall Debashish Pal and Engineer Mainul Abedin, son of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, attended as special guests.
Curator of the annual exhibition Kantideb Adhikari delivered the welcome address.
A total of 16 students were awarded prizes in different categories at the opening ceremony.
The awardees included Pallabi Biswas (Best Award, Experimental), Sajeeb Dutta (Special Award, Experimental), Pragati Chakma (Best Award, Watercolour), Sohag Roy (Best Award, Pencil), and Jahin Raida Maisha (Artist Shafiqul Amin Memorial Award).
Bappi Pal received the Artist Rashid Chowdhury Memorial Award, while Ishtiaq Hossain and Md Zakaria Islam received the Artist Aminul Islam Memorial Award and Artist Shawkatuzzaman Memorial Award, respectively.
The remaining awardees were Raheli Rubaiyat (Best Award, Experimental), Basundhara Sarker (Special Award, Experimental), Shubhojit Pal (Best Award, Watercolour), Amiyo Pal (Best Award, Pencil), Sushma Sadaf Mithi (Artist Shafiqul Amin Memorial Award), Nakeeb Jahangir (Artist Rashid Chowdhury Memorial Award), Sunay Chakma (Artist Aminul Islam Memorial Award)
