Four members of a family, including a pregnant woman, were rescued unconscious from a house in Hakoba village of Monirampur, Jashore, and taken to hospital with the help of Ansar-VDP members.
The incident occurred around 10am on Saturday in Monirampur upazila’s No. 6 Sadar Union. After receiving information that there was no response from the house of Md Mikail Hossain, union Ansar-VDP team leader Md Zubayer Hossain rushed to the spot with two VDP members.
They found four family members unconscious and in critical condition. Zubayer arranged a vehicle at his own expense for Tk1,200 and took all four to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex.
He also stayed at the hospital and assisted with their treatment as no relatives were immediately available. He later informed the local police.
Police visited the scene and launched an investigation. Authorities are looking into whether a sedative or other substance may have been mixed with food, among other possible causes.
Three of the four patients have reportedly shown some improvement. However, the pregnant woman remains hospitalised in critical condition.
The rescued individuals were identified as Md Mikail Hossain, Sahida Begum, Md Hayat Hossain and Suraiya Begum, all residents of Hakoba village.
The Ansar-VDP members involved in the rescue were Zubayer Hossain, Tarik Rahman and Aktarul. Their prompt response and efforts to arrange transportation and ensure medical care have been praised locally.
