A joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive life-term convict in a sensational murder case in Godagari, Rajshahi.
RAB-3 and RAB-5 arrested Md Hasibul Islam, 50, from the Bhadra residential area under Motihar Police Station around 8:30pm on September 7.
According to RAB, Hasibul and his associates had a long-standing dispute with victim Naimul Islam, 28, and his family over land and collecting sap from palm trees.
On April 19, 2020, Hasibul and his associates allegedly attacked Naimul and his family members with bamboo sticks and a machete. Naimul sustained serious injuries and was later declared dead at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
A murder case was filed with Godagari Police Station. After a lengthy trial, a court sentenced Hasibul to life imprisonment with hard labour in November 2025.
RAB said Hasibul had been on the run since the case was filed, changing his name and appearance and moving between different parts of the country.
Following a request from Godagari Police, RAB-3 conducted a shadow investigation and identified his whereabouts before arresting him with assistance from RAB-5.
Legal action has been taken against the arrested convict, RAB said.
