Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed law enforcement agencies to take stricter action to curb the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic in Bangladesh.
He also instructed relevant ministries, departments and agencies to properly carry out their responsibilities in controlling environmental pollution.
The directives were issued at a review meeting on environmental pollution control held at the Secretariat on Wednesday, chaired by the prime minister.
The meeting discussed progress and future measures related to increasing the use of environmentally friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil and noise pollution, and improving waste management.
The prime minister also stressed stronger implementation of government initiatives to reduce environmental pollution.
Senior ministers, the Cabinet Secretary, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, officials of Dhaka South City Corporation and senior representatives of relevant ministries and agencies attended the meeting.
