Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain has praised Walton for producing high-tech electronics and electrical products locally, saying the company’s products are durable and affordable while creating jobs and saving foreign currency.
The minister made the remarks during a visit to Walton headquarters in Chandra, Gazipur, on Tuesday evening (September 8, 2026).
During the visit, he toured Walton’s production facilities, display centre, advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, research and development operations and the country’s largest floating solar power plant at the headquarters.
The minister said he had previously assumed that Walton mainly assembled or reassembled imported products. “After visiting the factory today, my perception has completely changed. I am impressed,” he said.
He praised Walton’s use of renewable energy and environmentally friendly production systems, describing the initiative as commendable.
Highlighting the importance of technology-driven industries to Bangladesh’s economic development, Zahid Hossain said the country had reached significant milestones in agriculture and the garment sector and now needed to expand technology-based industries to move towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
He said the government was committed to supporting domestic industries and had provided tax and policy support in the 2026-27 national budget to promote industrial development and employment.
During the visit, Walton High-Tech Industries PLC directors SM Rezaul Alam and SM Manzurul Alam Abhi welcomed the minister. He was also briefed on Walton’s manufacturing capabilities, quality control, technological development and export activities.
