50 rainwater storage tanks with a capacity of 1,000 liters have been distributed to 50 families in Tanchgya Para of Rajbila Union of Bandarban with the aim of strengthening water security, developing sustainable water management and increasing climate resilience of water-stressed communities in the hilly areas.
This initiative has been undertaken under the Water Resource Management (WRM) Project supported by World Vision Bangladesh, funded by World Vision USA and implemented by GRAUS.
The objective of the project is to increase availability of water for household daily use (not drinking) through rainwater harvesting, development of water conservation capacity and contribution to groundwater recharge through recharge/infiltration pits.
These initiatives will help ensure sustainable management of local water resources and maintain water availability during water crises. As part of this program, World Vision is helping beneficiary families to establish a complete management system for effective rainwater collection, storage and use using their existing house roofs. This includes 1,000 liter capacity water storage tank, necessary pipes, valves, filters and other accessories.
Wall Vision Bangladesh WRM PBI Project Manager Kazi Golam Murtuza Rabi was present at the tank distribution ceremony. No. 1 Rajbila Union Parishad Chairman Ky Ang Pru Marma, Rajbila Tangchanga Para Karbari Sudhanshu Tangchanga, Graus W RMO Md. Mamunur Rashid, Graus W RMF Md. Shahidul Alam, local public representatives, community leaders, beneficiary families and representatives of World Vision and GRAUS were present.
Speakers in the event said that rainwater conservation is a practical way to deal with water crisis in the hilly areas of Bandarban.Effective and sustainable solutions. This initiative will increase the capacity of households to conserve water while reducing pressure on groundwater and will play an important role in ensuring long-term water security for vulnerable populations.
