Retired Professor Dr. Sirajul Haque of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at the University of Dhaka died at 3:20am on Thursday, September 10, 2026, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. He was 73.
He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, and a large number of students, relatives and well-wishers.
University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam expressed deep sorrow at his death. In a condolence message, the vice-chancellor described Dr. Haque as a renowned soil scientist and a dedicated teacher and researcher.
Dr. Haque had 170 research papers published in various national and international journals. He will be remembered for his significant contributions to education and research, the vice-chancellor said.
He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
