21 DU Students Receive Trust Fund Scholarships

A total of 21 students from different departments of the University of Dhaka (DU) have received scholarships under two trust funds.

Of them, 14 students received the Aminur Rahman Khan Memorial Scholarship, while seven were awarded the Professor Shaheen Ahmed and Kazi Anwar Ahmed Trust Scholarship at separate ceremonies held at the university’s meeting room near the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Wednesday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam attended both programmes as the chief guest, while Treasurer Prof Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury chaired the events.

Among others, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Md Abul Kalam Sarkar, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Mohammad Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr Md Mofazzal Hossain, Anthropology Department Chairman Prof Dr Md Rafiul Islam, Music Department Chairperson Dr Priyanka Gop, Acting Registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmmed and donor member and retired Anthropology professor Dr Shaheen Ahmed were present.

Speaking at the programmes, the Vice-Chancellor said supporting talented students is a moral responsibility. Financial assistance through trust funds will help students continue their studies without hardship and provide opportunities to develop their talent and potential, he said.

He thanked the donors for taking such a noble initiative, adding that scholarships are not merely financial support but also a source of inspiration for students to move forward and contribute to the welfare of the country and society.

Aminur Rahman Khan Memorial Scholarship
Under the scholarship, talented undergraduate students from seven departments receive financial assistance annually based on recommendations from the respective academic committees.

Students from the departments of History, Music, Political Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Fisheries, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and Nuclear Engineering received the scholarship.

A total of 14 students from the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic sessions received Tk 12,000 each as a one-time scholarship.

Professor Shaheen Ahmed and Kazi Anwar Ahmed Trust Scholarship
Seven undergraduate students from the Department of Anthropology received this scholarship based on academic merit. They included four first-year students and one student each from the second, third and fourth years.

Each recipient received Tk 20,000 as a one-time scholarship for the 2024-25 academic session.
