The Department of Information Science and Library Management at the University of Dhaka organised a freshers’ reception and farewell programme on Sunday at the Teacher-Student Centre auditorium.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Almozaddedi Alfechani attended the programme as chief guest.
The event was chaired by Department Chairman Professor Dr Md Rokonuzzaman. Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Sarker and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Khandakar Nurul Haque attended as special guests.
In his speech, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new students and urged them to develop knowledge and skills alongside academic excellence while upholding humanitarian values.
He also encouraged students to acquire modern skills, including data science and artificial intelligence, to become competent citizens in a technology-driven world. He urged them to develop an entrepreneurial mindset rather than focusing solely on jobs and called on graduating students to use their university education for the welfare of society and the country.
Four students who achieved the highest CGPAs in the BA Honours final examination were awarded crests. They are Md Fazle Rabbi, Md Farhan Sadik Rafid, Tapasi Tamanna and Amina Khan.
