Water transport fares have increased by 7.54% following the recent hike in fuel prices, raising travel costs for passengers across the country.
The revised fares for passenger launches and other water transport services came into effect today, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said.
Under the revised fare structure, the minimum fare has been set at Tk35.
For the first 100 kilometres, the fare has increased by 23 poisha per kilometre, while the rate will rise by 20 poisha per kilometre for distances beyond 100 kilometres.
The fare adjustment follows the recent increase in fuel prices and is expected to raise the cost of waterway travel for commuters and passengers.
