Police have arrested two men allegedly directly involved in the abduction and murder of Jubo Dal leader Md Jisan in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar, and seized a Toyota Noah vehicle allegedly used in the crime.
The arrested men are Anwar Hossain alias Kallu Driver of South Lotni and Jisat Mia alias Shawkat Driver of Ringbong Chhagirsaha Kata area in Chakaria.
Police said the arrests were made under the direction of Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman, with assistance from Chakaria Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Abdul Aziz and under the leadership of Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman.
According to police, several people allegedly abducted Jisan in a white Noah vehicle from in front of Chhabor Saudagar's shop in Maij Kakara area of Kakara Union between the night of September 27 and around 3:30am on September 28.
After receiving information about the abduction through the national emergency service 999, Chakaria police began searching for Jisan. His family informed police that he might have been kept at Kabir Tower in Sabujbagh area of Chakaria municipality.
Police conducted a search at the building and examined CCTV footage from different floors but could not find him.
Later, at around 3am, Chakaria police received information from Malumghat Highway Police that a man was lying beside the road in Medhakachhapia area. Police recovered the body and family members identified it as Jisan.
The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy after an inquest.
Jisan's brother, Kaichar Hamid, filed a murder case with Chakaria Police Station on September 29. The case names Rezia Sultana, Nazim Uddin, Begum Nazim Uddin, Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Zakaria, Minhaj Uddin and AK Tarek, along with several unidentified people, as accused.
As part of the investigation, police used information technology, CCTV footage and local intelligence to identify the suspects. Anwar Hossain was arrested from his home in Lotni on the night of September 30.
Police said Anwar provided information during preliminary interrogation about the alleged murder plan and his involvement in the operation. He later reportedly gave a confessional statement before a court.
Based on information provided by Anwar and further technological investigation, police arrested Jisat Mia from his home in Ringbong early on October 2.
