A two-day seminar organized by the Liberation War Research Center of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) has commenced. The inaugural session took place on Monday (October 5, 2026) at 9:30 AM in the Teachers' Conference Hall at BOU's Gazipur campus.Special guest Professor Dr. Anisur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of BOU, inaugurated the seminar on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. In his inaugural address, he noted that since its inception, Bangladesh Open University has prioritized various intellectual activities—such as research, seminars, and symposiums—alongside formal education.
The current administration has undertaken various initiatives to further strengthen these activities. As part of this ongoing effort, there are plans to expand the scope of the Liberation War Research Center and incorporate 'Bangladesh Studies' in the future.
He stated that this would broaden opportunities for research not only on the Liberation War but also on various subjects related to Bangladesh's history, heritage, and sociology. Congratulating the organizers on holding the first seminar under the center's initiative after nearly a decade, he urged for the speedy completion of the center's ongoing research projects. Reflecting on the direct memories and emotions associated with the Liberation War, he expressed his keen interest in remaining involved with the center's research activities in the future.Professor Dr. Rafsan Mahmud, Director of BOU's Liberation War Research Center, presided over and moderated the seminar.
In his presidential address, he discussed in detail the magnitude of the political, social, and economic losses suffered during the Great Liberation War, the combat strategies employed by the freedom fighters, and the far-reaching impacts of the war both during the conflict and in the post-war period.
