A training workshop on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) was held in Paba upazila of Rajshahi on Tuesday, aiming to raise farmers’ awareness about safe food production and the proper use of pesticides.
The Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA), Rajshahi Divisional Chapter, organised the training at the conference hall of Ashroy Training Centre in Paba.
Around 30 farmers from different areas of Rajshahi district took part in the day-long training.
Md Nazrul Islam, president of the BCPA Rajshahi Divisional Chapter, chaired the programme.
Agriculturist Md Abdur Razzak, acting agriculture officer of Paba upazila, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Agriculturist Debashish Chatterjee, manager and trainer of BCPA's Dhaka office, conducted the main training session.
Among others, Hafizur Rahman, deputy assistant plant protection officer of Paba; Agriculturist SM Mahfuz Sobhan Adil, president of Rajshahi Pesticide Owners Association; its general secretary Mojibur Rahman; Agriculturist Farid Akhter, president of Rajshahi Pesticide Officers Association; its general secretary Zahurul Islam; and representatives of several agrochemical companies attended the event.
The training focused on safe food production, adoption of GAP in crop cultivation, proper and safe use of pesticides, environmental protection and different stages of implementing Good Agricultural Practices.
The trainers also discussed the importance of using pesticides responsibly to ensure food safety while maintaining crop productivity and protecting the environment.
At the end of the training, certificates were handed over to all participating farmers.
