State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain has announced his resignation, saying the decision was his own despite his party's opposition.
“I am resigning on my own. The party did not want this. I am compelled to resign for specific reasons,” he told journalists on Monday afternoon before formally announcing his resignation.
Ishraque said his resignation would not end his campaign against drugs.
“The war against drugs will continue,” he said, adding that the current situation had arisen from the anti-drug operations he had carried out.
“The party did not want this; I took this decision myself. From now on, I will be even more aggressive in the field. I am declaring war on drugs,” he added.
Earlier, while leaving his residence, Ishraque personally removed the ministerial emblem from his vehicle.
