The Special Response Battalion (SRB-8) has strengthened security measures in Jhalakathi to ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, inspecting 159 puja venues across the district.
The security initiative aims to maintain law and order, ensure the safety of worshippers and visitors, and preserve communal harmony during the Hindu religious festival.
SRB-8 has taken various security measures in coordination with the local administration, law enforcement agencies and puja celebration committees to ensure that the festivities proceed peacefully and without disruption.
The measures include monitoring CCTV systems at puja venues, maintaining regular communication with volunteers, conducting surveillance in uniform and plain clothes, using body cameras and carrying out special patrols.
A control room has also been established to respond quickly to emergencies and unexpected incidents. People have been asked to contact 01777-710899 in case of emergency.
SRB-8 Barishal Commander Mohammad Zakiul Karim made the remarks during a press briefing after visiting Shri Shri Madan Mohan Thakur's Akhrabari and Ramakrishna Sebashram in Jhalakathi.
He said ensuring the safety of all citizens, regardless of religion or community, and maintaining communal harmony were among the battalion's key responsibilities.
Battalion members are performing their duties with vigilance and responsibility to prevent any individual or group from creating disorder during religious celebrations, he added.
SRB-8 Deputy Commander Major Mohammad Ashik Ikram Sourav, SRB-8 CPSCC Company Commander Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Kamruzzaman, and Advocate Nirmal Kanti De Tarun, president of Shri Shri Madan Mohan Thakur's Akhrabari and Ramakrishna Sebashram, were present at the briefing, along with other concerned officials.
Puja committee leaders, volunteers, local representatives and members of the public were urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The battalion also advised people to report any suspicious individuals, objects or activities to the relevant authorities promptly and refrain from spreading rumours or false information on social media.
SRB-8 reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professional, dedicated and coordinated security operations to ensure that Durga Puja is celebrated in a peaceful, safe and festive atmosphere.
