The United States has announced a $235,000 grant to restore the historic Mughal-era Musa Khan Mosque at Dhaka University, reinforcing a 25-year cultural partnership with Bangladesh.
The funding, provided through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), was announced by the US Embassy in Dhaka in a press release on Tuesday (March 31). With this latest initiative, total US support for cultural preservation projects in Bangladesh has exceeded $1 million across 13 projects.
In collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, the project will focus on restoring the mosque’s Islamic architectural features, creating a permanent digital archive, and training young architects to help preserve the country’s cultural heritage.
The grant was announced by US Ambassador Brent T. Christensen alongside Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Director General of the Department of Archaeology Sabina Alam.
