Colorful road rally and discussion meeting on the occasion of Jatka Conservation Week in Barisal

A colorful road rally, opening ceremony and discussion meeting were held on the occasion of Jatka Conservation Week 2026 in Barisal. 

The 'Jatka Conservation Week' program was inaugurated in Barisal to increase public awareness in Jatka conservation and ensure active involvement of the concerned. As part of the program from April 7 to April 9, the opening ceremony and discussion meeting were held at the Barisal Sadar Upazila Parishad conference room at 10:30 am on Tuesday, organized by the Upazila Administration and the Office of the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer. 

The chief guest of the program was Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Development and Human Resource Management (A.D.) Sufal Chandra Goldar. The special guests of the program were Deputy Director of the Barisal Fisheries Department Md. Mohsin, District Fisheries Officer Dr. Md. Hadiuzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Bakerganj Circle) Md. Masum Billah, etc. 

The meeting was presided over by Barisal Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Farida Sultana. Also present at the event were officials from various levels of the Fisheries Department, OC of Sadar Nau Police Station, public representatives, fishermen from the Fishermen's Association and people from different professions. 

The event was moderated by Barisal Sadar Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Jamal Hossain. At that time, he said that the main goal of the event was to inform the public about the various steps taken by the government to conserve Jatka and to create awareness to stop illegal harvesting. In addition, alternative employment and support activities for fishermen were also discussed. 

He further said that the program includes awareness-raising and opinion-sharing meetings, swimming competitions among fishermen and various social initiatives. The general public believes that such events will play a positive role in conserving Jatka.
