Life sketch of Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee

Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee was born on February 2, 1968 at Banchanagar village under Lakshmipur municipality in a respected Chowdhury family. His father is Haji Bashir Ullah Chowdhury and mother is Hosne Ara Begum. 

He began his education at an early age and completed his SSC in Science group from Lakshmipur Adarsha Samad Government High School and HSC from the Government Science College, Tejgaon in Dhaka. He completed his B.Sc. honours in 1988 and M.Sc. in 1989 in the Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology from University of Dhaka. He later completed a Diploma in Education from the University’s Institute of Education and Research (IER) in 1993.

His political career began during his school years through involvement with Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. At the University of Dhaka, he held several important leadership positions including DUCSU member and Acting VP. He later served as President of the central Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (1996–1998) and became a member of the BNP Central Executive Committee in 1999. Over the years, he has held various significant party roles, including Joint Secretary General, Relief and Rehabilitation Committee Coordinator and Convener of Lakshmipur District BNP.

Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee is a senior leader of BNP and three-time Member of Parliament from Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar Upazila). He was elected to the National Parliament in 2001 and 2008 and again in 2026 in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Following the BNP’s majority victory in 2026, he was appointed as the Minister of Water Resources.

During his parliamentary tenure, he served on several standing committees, including those related to Education, Disaster Management and Relief, Textiles and Jute and Science and Information Technology. In 2013 he also served as Acting Chief Whip of the Opposition in the National Parliament.

In 2026 after being elected for the third time, he assumed the responsibility of Minister of Water Resources, continuing his long-standing role in national politics and public service. He is married to Parveen Akter Chowdhury and is the father of two sons and one daughter.
