Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended his greetings and heartfelt congratulations to everyone from different ethnic groups living in the hilly areas on the occasion of the mountain festivals Biju, Shangrai, Baisu, Changkran, Bishu and Changlan.
He extended these greetings in a message given on Saturday (April 11).
In it, the Prime Minister said that the religious and social festivals of different communities, regardless of religion or caste, or all those living in the hills or plains, regardless of caste, are part of our national festivals. He also expressed hope that these festivals will bring peace and joy to national life.
He also said that the traditions, culture, and history of different ethnic groups in the hilly region are an integral part of the national history and culture of Bangladesh, which has made our heritage glorious, abundant and beautiful. The timeless message of harmony and unity among people is embedded in our folk tradition.
Bangladesh's communal harmony has added a brighter dimension to the country's prestige all over the world. We are determined to ensure equal progress, development, security and protection of the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution for all citizens, including the various small ethnic groups of our country. As a Bangladeshi, whether living in the hills or the plains, we all have equal rights.
The Prime Minister also expressed hope in her message that the major social festivals of different ethnic groups and the Bengali New Year will bring unwavering happiness and peace to everyone's lives.
