Rajshahi mangoes are coming to the market this week. This season is starting with the planting of small mangoes on May 15. After that, several varieties of mangoes will be introduced in stages.
This information was given at a meeting on mango transportation, marketing and collection held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Sunday regarding the timing of mango planting in Rajshahi district.
The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam. At that time, a 'mango calendar' was published to ensure ripe mangoes after discussing with agricultural officers, mango farmers, traders and everyone involved in mango transportation. According to the decision of the meeting, this year, all small mango varieties will be planted from May 15. Gopalbhog will be planted from May 22, Ranipachanda or Lakshmanbhog on May 25, Himsagar or Khirsapat on May 30, Banana Mango and Langra on June 10, Amrapali and Fazli on June 15, Bari-4 on July 5, Ashwina on July 10, and Gaurmati on July 15. And Langra will arrive in the middle of next month. In addition, Katimon and Bari mango-11 will be available throughout the year. This year, mangoes have been cultivated in 19,062 hectares of land in Rajshahi. The potential average production is 12.80 metric tons. The potential total production is 2,43,993 metric tons. In addition, the potential total sale is 780 crore taka.
Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam said in the meeting that mangoes cannot be harvested before the scheduled time. The local Upazila Nirbahi Officer will supervise the matter. He also said that no market will be allowed to be set up on the road.
