A 15-day skill development training programme under the "Improving the Living Standards of Marginalized Communities" project was inaugurated in Barishal on Monday with the aim of enhancing participants' employability, promoting self-employment, and improving their socio-economic conditions.

The programme, organized by the Barishal District Social Services Office under the 2025–26 fiscal year's initiative, was inaugurated by Barishal Deputy Commissioner Md. Khairul Alam Sumon at the seminar hall of the District Social Services Complex in Rupatali.

Speaking as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged participants to make the most of the training, saying it would not only equip them with practical skills but also provide the foundation for becoming economically self-reliant.

"You will not only learn new skills during these 15 days but also gain the confidence to build a sustainable livelihood," he said. "The government has introduced this programme to help marginalized people move away from traditional and high-risk occupations by creating income-generating opportunities based on skills and knowledge."

He urged the trainees to use the skills they acquire to become financially independent and ensure better educational opportunities for future generations. He also encouraged them to utilize the government grants provided after the training to start small businesses or other productive ventures.

Director of the Barishal Divisional Social Services Office, Shah Md. Rafiqul Islam, attended the programme as the special guest.

The event was chaired by A.K.M. Akhtaruzzaman Talukdar, Deputy Director of the Barishal District Social Services Office.

Among others present were Sajjad Parvez, Principal of the Regional Centre of the Department of Social Services in Barishal, representatives of non-governmental organizations, members of marginalized communities, and media personnel.
