Local residents have formed a human chain demanding the establishment of the upazila headquarters at a reasonable and acceptable location for the administrative activities of the newly formed Fatikchhari North Upazila. Later, they held a protest march and road blockade program by burning tires on the highway

The program was held at around 3 pm on Thursday (July 2) in the Heyanko area of the upazila.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, leaders and activists of various social, political and professional organizations and the general public participated in the program. The protesters were seen holding banners and festoons with various demands. They demanded the establishment of the upazila headquarters at a reasonable location for the administrative activities of the newly formed Fatikchhari North Upazila, considering the geographical, communication and public service aspects.

After the human chain, the protesters took a procession to the Hayanko area of the Feni-Khagrachari highway. During this time, they held a blockade program by burning tires on the road. Due to the blockade that lasted for about an hour, long traffic jams were created on both sides of the Feni-Khagrachari highway and hundreds of passengers suffered.

The protesters alleged that the opinions of the local people and the real situation were not properly taken into consideration in determining the headquarters of the newly formed Fatikchhari North Upazila. They urgently sought the intervention of the concerned authorities in this regard and reiterated their demand to establish the upazila headquarters in the north at a reasonable place. They will not accept the upazila in Bhujpur police station.

Advocate Russell Ahmed Bhuiyan, Member Secretary of Fatikchhari North Upazila Citizens Forum, said that on 1/11, the leaders of the south of Fatikchhari conspired to establish a police station in Bhujpur.

This time too, they have risen up to establish the newly approved Fatikchhari North Upazila headquarters in Bhujpur. We will not allow the headquarters to be established in Bhujpur by ignoring the long-standing demands of the people of the northern region. Our movement is going on and will continue. He ended today's blockade program by announcing a new program later.
