A district-level advocacy and action plan meeting was held in Barishal on Tuesday to ensure the successful implementation of the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign scheduled for June 28.
The meeting was organized by the Barishal Civil Surgeon’s Office with support from the National Nutrition Services (NNS) at the Civil Surgeon’s conference room. Barishal Deputy Commissioner Md Khairul Alam Sumon attended as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of Vitamin A supplementation in preventing night blindness, malnutrition, and other health complications among children. He noted that many children under the age of five do not receive adequate breast milk or Vitamin A-rich foods, making the campaign crucial for improving child health and reducing mortality risks.
He called for extensive awareness campaigns across urban and rural areas through loudspeaker announcements, leaflet distribution, and posters to ensure maximum participation.
The meeting was informed that the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2026 will be conducted nationwide on June 28 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Children aged 6–11 months will receive one blue Vitamin A capsule, while those aged 12–59 months will receive one red capsule free of charge at vaccination centres.
In Barishal district, the campaign will be carried out simultaneously across all upazilas through nine permanent vaccination centres and 2,088 temporary centres.
The meeting was chaired by Civil Surgeon Dr SM Monjur-E-Elahi. Among others present were Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Meherun Nahar Munni, Deputy Director of Family Planning Md Mehbub Morshed, Assistant Commissioner Rajan Roy, representatives of NGOs, and media personnel.
A documentary on the Vitamin A Plus Campaign was also screened under the supervision of Medical Officer Dr Md Ejaz Hossain.
