A worker was detained while allegedly consuming cannabis during a routine patrol by members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) campus in Gazipur on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred at around 6:00 pm in the western field area of the BRRI campus. While carrying out regular security patrols, APC Md Sohel Rana, Ansar Chandan Roy, and Ansar Jamil Hossain noticed a group of individuals behaving suspiciously. After monitoring their activities, they found that four to five people were allegedly consuming cannabis.
As the suspects attempted to flee after noticing the Ansar patrol, the security personnel launched an immediate operation and detained one individual on the spot. Evidence related to drug use was also seized from the scene.
The detained individual, along with the seized evidence, was handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action.
Officials said Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party personnel conduct regular patrols at the BRRI campus to prevent drug abuse, theft, and other crimes. They added that such proactive measures play an important role in maintaining campus security and ensuring a drug-free environment.
