Students of Dahagram Government High School in Patgram upazila have launched a class boycott demanding immediate appointment of more teachers as the school is currently running with only one teacher for nearly 600 students.

The school, located in the border area of Dahagram Union, was established in 1975 and nationalised in 2013. According to government rules, the institution should have 25 subject-based teachers. However, only seven teachers were initially included during nationalisation, and six of them have since retired.
At present, the entire academic activities of the school are being managed by only one assistant head teacher, who can conduct only five classes a day. As a result, regular lessons in most classes are being severely disrupted, raising concerns among students and guardians.

Demanding immediate recruitment of required teachers, students started their protest by boycotting classes on Tuesday. They said normal education cannot continue without adequate teaching staff.
Local residents said students from Dahagram, surrounded by the Indian border, have limited opportunities to study outside the area as the only route is through the historic Tin Bigha Corridor. They urged authorities to take urgent steps considering the future of the students.

The school’s assistant head teacher said several teacher demand letters have been submitted to the authorities, but no new teachers have been appointed yet.

Locals called for quick recruitment of teachers to restore academic activities and improve the quality of education at the border school.
