Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-15 has seized 53 bottles of Indian narcotic cough syrup and two cattle during separate anti-smuggling operations along the Lalmonirhat border. However, no smugglers were arrested.
According to Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB), patrol teams from Jhaurani and Dighaltari Border Outposts conducted the operations based on intelligence information.

In the first operation, a patrol team from Jhaurani BOP raided the Khamarbhaty area under Hatibandha upazila at around 12:30 am on Saturday. A suspected smuggler fled after being chased, leaving behind a bag containing 53 bottles of Indian Eskap syrup.

Earlier, on Friday night, a Dighaltari BOP patrol team conducted an operation in Pagla Bazar area of Aditmari upazila. Several smugglers attempted to bring two Indian cattle into Bangladesh but escaped back to India after noticing the BGB presence, leaving the animals behind.

BGB said the seized cough syrup was worth around Tk21,200, while the two cattle were valued at Tk1.9 lakh. The total seizure value was estimated at Tk2.11 lakh.

Legal action is being taken to identify those involved in the smuggling activities.

Lalmonirhat Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mehdi Imam, PSC, said BGB remains committed to ensuring border security and preventing smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal entry, and other cross-border crimes. He added that intelligence surveillance and patrols have been strengthened to keep the border areas secure.
