The Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2026 concluded at Bells Park in Barishal on Sunday, with sales exceeding Tk 50 lakh, according to organisers.

The closing ceremony was organised by the Barishal district administration and the Social Forestry Division under the theme, “Let’s Beautify the Country Through Tree Plantation, Bangladesh First.”**

Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Ahsan Habib attended the programme as chief guest. In his speech, he said the government has planned to plant 25 crore trees over five years to improve the country’s environment and maintain ecological balance.

He stressed the need for extensive tree plantation, particularly in coastal areas vulnerable to cyclones and lightning. He encouraged people to plant suitable species such as palm and date trees and ensure proper care of newly planted trees.

Habib also urged people to prioritise native fruit trees, highlighting the nutritional value of fruits such as guava, amla, mango, jackfruit and wood apple. He said processing and exporting jackfruit could create new economic opportunities and called for greater investment in agricultural research and mechanisation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Salma Parvin chaired the closing ceremony, while Divisional Forest Officer Md Rafiqul Islam spoke as a special guest.

Government officials, political leaders, journalists and students attended the event.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to nursery owners. Brikkhokunjo Nursery of Barishal Sadar won first place, Mariam Nursery secured second and Cactus Valley finished third.

Winners of a drawing competition organised as part of the tree fair also received crests and certificates from the chief guest.
